Green Energy: Current Opportunties

I. His Excellency, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, president of Uganda, has boldly called for the developed nations not to give their charity but to create opportunity through reduced tariffs, the introduction of new technologies and vocational training.. We at the Liberty Institute are committed to helping achieve these goals.

Uganda along with the rest of East Africa has a severe deficiency in electrical production. With the exploding population growth, and ever increasing pool of university graduates Uganda has a growing crisis on its hands. That is an idle or under employed population. The lack of electricity has been exacerbated by periods of draught and underdeveloped infrastructure in the hydro electricity sector.

Liberty has researched other technologies that are cutting edge and are supplied by renewable resources. We have been contracted to introduce 200Mw 's of wind energy to connect to the national grid. This project will be funded by sources outside of Uganda and will pay for itself through long term power sales. (detailed information under confidentiality agreement at this time)

Along with building the wind facility, Liberty and its partners seek to achieve the above referenced goals by building a $50 million manufacturing facility as well as technical training facilities to educate the work force in the building, implementing and maintaining of this new technology.

Liberty will also co ordinate with other NGO's to provide microfinance and business training in order to create the infrastructure needed to support an entirely new industry.

II. Currently only 20 percent of the entire country of Uganda is on the electrical grid. Instead of spending billions of dollars to create an expanded grid infrastructure, we at the Institute have developed a plan to electrify regional areas through a variety of renewable energy technologies. These regional areas would then be developed into economic zones by utilizing the electricity to create new jobs and opportunities.

Please contact Gordon at the Liberty Institute if you are interested in learning more about our Rural Electrification Plan.
